Breathing Futures - CBS Workshop Recap
On July 17th 2025, Pellucid IT Inc., was honoured to attend and support the Breathing Futures: Climate Change, Wildfires, Air Pollution, and Human Health in Barbados stakeholder engagement hosted by the Centre for Biosecurity Studies (CBS), UWI Cave Hill.
We commend CBS for convening such a timely conversation. The workshop brought together scientists, health professionals, risk managers, technologists, and government stakeholders across Barbados to address the urgent threats in the Caribbean posed by worsening air quality and climate-driven hazards like wildfires.
One of the highlights for us was the presentation by CBS’s director, Dr. Kirk Douglas, who showcased an AI-powered mockup of an Air Quality Tracker App, built using Replit’s AI tools. The intention of the app is to visualize air quality data, track pollution events such as wildfires or Sahara dust outbreaks, and offer early-warning insights that can protect vulnerable communities — particularly those at risk from asthma and cardiovascular illness.
As the project moves into full development, Pellucid IT Inc. is excited to support the design and build of the live app and alert system—turning a bold concept into a practical tool for public good.
We’re proud to be part of the Caribbean Air Pollution (CAP) Initiative, especially at this stage where vision becomes digital reality. This initiative lays the groundwork for real-time air quality data, early warning systems, and stronger public health readiness across the region.
We believe this kind of innovation is essential—not just for technology’s sake, but to equip communities with the tools they need to stay informed and protected.
We call on corporate Barbados to invest in this vision. The health of our people depends on it.
Grateful to be a partner in this initiative — and excited for what's to come.
